Steps to Selling a House
Now that you’ve put your home on the market and the overwhelm is setting in you’re probably asking yourself, where do I start? Well, here are the steps to selling a house faster and for more money. My team and I have helped thousands of people sell and buy homes, and I understand the overwhelm. I found that by having a plan to follow, you can better prepare your home for those house hunters.
Steps to Selling a House: Declutter
The first steps to selling a house is declutter your home. This could be a long process but the sooner you start, the better. Take a really good look at each room and pack up everything you don’t think that you’ll need for the next few months. This includes any personal items, including pictures. And remember you have to pack and move that stuff anyway so you’re just getting a head start.
Steps to Selling a House: Deep Clean
The next steps to selling a house is you want to make sure that your home is spic and span. Does the term spic and span kind of date me? You remember the old commercials? Whatever. I’ll let you decide.
When a buyer sees a dirty home, they feel that the home may not have been kept up well and we don’t want to give the buyers any reason to look anywhere else. Help your home to shine to any perspective buyers by polishing up any hardware like the doorknobs or the handles on your cabinets and making sure that the floors have a nice deep shine, clean out the grout. And while you’re at it, pull out the fridge, the stove, the washer and the dryer. Sweep out the dust, the dog hair, the lint and whatever else might be hiding back there. The grape you dropped last month that rolled away. Is it still there? Trust me, it’s still there.
Steps to Selling a House: Finish Odd Projects
You’ll also want to finish any of those little projects that you started and didn’t quite get to completing. Make sure that you’ve inspected all your major systems like the HVAC, make sure they’re all in working order. If your home hasn’t had a fresh coat of paint on those walls for a while, you may want to consider painting. Although you may really like that purple kitchen, it’s probably lacking appeal to most buyers. These items will help you in selling your home faster and for more money.
Curb Appeal
The next steps to selling a house is creating the best first impression possible and that would be curb appeal.
